It has been revealed by number crunchers that The Last of Us Part 2 has received more Game of the Year awards than any other video game of 2020. According to the latest figures, Naughty Dog’s sequel to The Last of Us has now won more than 200 Game of the Year awards.
Without giving any spoilers away, even before The Last of Us Part 2 released it came under much scrutiny and controversy from fans thanks to major leaks.
If there ever was a “love it or hate it” award for 2020, then it would probably go to The Last of Us Part 2, though it seems that more gamers loved Naughty Dog’s latest big game than those that may have hated it.
Throughout the year Game Awards.net (not to be confused with Geoff Keighley’s The Game Awards) has been tracking which games have won the prestigious Game of the Year Award from media outlets.
According to the numbers compiled by Game Awards [via TwistedVoxel], The Last of Us Part 2 has received more than 200 Game of the Year Awards for 2020.
The 200-plus awards aren’t just made-up of writer’s choice either, because they even include awards from the respective readers.
Game Awards has recorded that 143 media outlets awarded Game of the Year to The Last of Us Part 2 and it received a further 63 readers’ choice awards too. This brings the grand total to 207 Game of the Year awards for 2020.
Following The Last of Us Part 2, the remaining top ten list for games awarded GOTY for 2020 includes Hades (47), Ghost of Tsushima (36), Animal Crossing (20), Cyberpunk 2077 (19), Final Fantasy VII Remake (15), Doom Eternal (10), Half-Life: Alyx (9), Microsoft Flight Simulator (4) and Yakuza: Like a Dragon (3).
