Netflix’s The Witcher has drawn a lot of comparisons to the late and somewhat great Game of Thrones, but there’s at least one way in which the shows are going to be very different.
We all remember that GoT moment in which Ed Sheeran made a very strange cameo during the episode “Dragonstone.” Seemingly out of nowhere, the music icon showed up to sing us all a little ditty before vanishing into obscurity again. It was all very odd, the internet absolutely hated it, and now the author of The Witcher has taken shots at the strange moment in television history.
As reported by ComicBook, the author of The Witcher novels Andrzej Sapkowski recently talked about the Netflix adaptation during the 2018 Warsaw Comic Con. He explained that he won’t be letting the series do a Game of Thrones anytime soon, criticising the latter for its Sheeran cameo.
“I believe that my job as a creative consultant for this series is to make sure that at NO point in the show [will] Ed Sheeran sing. And that I will make sure doesn’t happen. I will make sure,” said Sapkowski.
Thankfully we have his word!
Now that the first season of The Witcher has dropped, we’re all eagerly awaiting more news of the show and its future.
According to Netflix, the second series is already in pre-production, with a scheduled release window of 2021. Filming for season two is expected to begin in the spring of this year, meaning we’re likely to start hearing more about the direction of the show in the coming months.
The series’ showrunner, Lauren S. Hissrich previously mentioned the show could run for “20 years,” and I’m totally ready for that. Maybe let’s just see how season two goes first of all though.
