WandaVision Has Been Hiding A Stan Lee Easter Egg We All Missed

The Disney Plus show WandaVision apparently has a Stan Lee easter egg hidden in plain sight, according to director Matt Shakman.

Before we continue, we just want to let you know this article contains NO spoilers for the season finale of WandaVision.

During a recent interview with ScreenRant, Shankman was asked if he had a favourite WandaVision easter egg. His response? Well, apparently, it’s a Stan Lee reference that no one has spotted yet:

I mean, there certainly are some that folks have noticed that are important,” Shakman remarked. “A certain license plate, perhaps, in an opening title recently. We have to honor Stan Lee, of course.”

The reference is pretty obscure but is definitely there! The license plate Shankman is referring to appears in episode 7 of WandaVision. You know, the one that’s a blatant parody of The Office? The plate is featured in the intro and has the numbers “122822” along its top. These numbers are actually a reference to Stan Lee’s birthday, which is the 28th of December 1922.

Pretty obscure, right? Well, WandaVision is packed full of easter eggs and historical Marvel references. Some of them are easy to spot, while others are a little more subtle. Stan Lee also appears in various Marvel films, with cameos in the MCU, Sam Rami’s Spider-Man trilogy, the X-men saga, and even Disney’s Big Hero 6, which was initially a Marvel comic.

WandaVision’s number plate reference may be obscure, but it’s a nice way to keep the Marvel creator in our hearts.

Despite Lee’s departure from this plane, he’s likely going to find a way to make his presence known within future Marvel projects. Stan Lee is still very much here in spirit, and WandaVision’s obscure reference is a testament to the comic book legacy he has created.
