This past weekend saw the unlikely news that Microsoft had seemingly acquired Twitter handles for two of its most classic IPs: Fable and Perfect Dark. Though Fable 4 is apparently still happening, we’ve heard next to nothing about the game, and the same goes for the nostalgia-inducing shooter, Perfect Dark.

As noted by The Verge’s Tom Warren, both “@fable” and “@PerfectDarkGame” were snapped up, with the name “Placeholder” plastered on both. According to Warren, a “Microsoft Xbox employee is following one, and the other is registered to a Microsoft email address.”
Of course this isn’t confirmation of anything really, but then Xbox’s very own Aaron Greenberg stepped in to quash the flow of rumours. Greenberg did confirm that the accounts are in the hands of Xbox, but went on to break hearts all over the world with his next statement.
Greenberg tweeted: “I know everyone is hungry for news, but sorry to get your hopes up. These accounts have been inactive for years, it’s standard practice to secure social handles for our IP.”
It seems as though the accounts, which appear to have been acquired recently, only show they’ve been RENEWED with Microsoft, and not that they’re new acquisitions. So does this mean a Perfect Dark and a new Fable are coming soon? Sadly, probably not.

Still, rumours of a Fable 4 are still continuing to this day, and with the next generation of consoles on the horizon, there’s been no better time than now for a Fable 4 announcement. Going up against the PlayStation 5 is going to be pretty tough, so Microsoft definitely needs to pull some impressive cats out of the bag to top it.
As for a Perfect Dark remake, reboot or entirely new game, yep, I’m all over that!
