Xbox Live Gold Subscriptions Will See Price Increase Next Month

Microsoft has announced to its Xbox Live Gold members that a price hike is coming – and it’s not a small one.

In an email sent to its existing subscribers, Microsoft has said that from May 8 there’s going to be an increase of more than 15%.

Right now, a 12-month subscription will set you back £39.99, but from May you’ll be paying £49.99. Three-month subscriptions will go from £14.99 to £17.99, but six-month package will stay the same at £29.99.

In a statement, Microsoft said: “This new pricing is aligned to the changes we made in the region in 2016 as we strive to offer our members premium gaming and entertainment services at a fair price.”

Over on Twitter, Xbox gamers aren’t pleased about the news, especially as Xbox products and services already tend to be a bit more expensive in the UK.

One gamer tweeted: “seriously considering not renewing my Xbox Live subscription. Price rise without added value by the looks of things? If anything Games with Gold is getting weaker. Can you guys help convince me why I should renew?”

Another threatened Xbox top dog Phil Spencer with “leaving for PS5” in light of the increase.

What do you think about the news?
