Yooka-Laylee Dev Issues Statement About Banjo-Kazooie Revival

A new Banjo-Kazooie game has been rumoured for a while now, but like all good things, the rumours have to come to an end. Unfortunately for fans of the classic franchise, it’s not the end we were hoping for.

Playtonic Games, the developer of Yooka-Laylee, has issued a statement in response to the suggestion that they’re secretly working on a new game with everyone’s favourite bear-and-bird duo.

Sharing their words on Twitter, Playtonic Games writes: “Hey everyone, we wanted to address this speculation currently swarming our mentions,

“We hate to be the bearer of news that isn’t what you want to hear, but we thought it best to come out and say — we aren’t working on a new Banjo-Kazooie game and we remain an independent studio.

“While we would love to work with the bear and bird again, that ball isn’t in our court. With that said, we are keen to continue progressing as a studio, carrying the experience of games we worked on, old and new, to create new characters and adventures for you to hopefully love.”

Rare is still the owner of the Banjo-Kazooie IP, so we might just have to accept that the duo’s appearance in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate is the best we’re going to be getting…

As for the Yooka-Laylee series, Yooka-Laylee and the Impossible Lair recently launched on Nintendo Switch.

If you love your colourful, zany and challenging platformers then this is a good option for you if the Banjo news has left you all weepy and sad.

The game’s official description reads: “Yooka and Laylee are back in a brand-new platform hybrid adventure! They must run, jump, and roll their way through a series of challenging 2D levels, face a puzzling Overworld, and rally the Royal Beetallion to take down Capital B and his Impossible Lair!”
