A New PlayStation Plus Video Pass Service Has Been Announced

Sony has announced a new PlayStation Plus Video Pass service, which will be available to subscribers in Poland.

Sony’s Nick Maguire has now revealed that the service will be coming to PlayStation Plus users in Poland. According to Maguire, Plus users will be able to watch a collection of movies, including Venom and Baby Drive, along with TV shows like Community.

New titles will be added to the service every three months. According to Spider’s Web, they can be viewed without any additional charge. Sony also recently announced that video content would no longer be available through the PlayStation Storefront. Some long-term fans might remember it previously featuring movies and TV shows to buy and rent. However, the store will be stripped to just games on the 31st of August 2021.

What Does This Mean For Sony?

It’s easy to forget that the PlayStation brand is just one aspect of Sony’s multimedia empire. Therefore, it makes sense that the company would want to marry its video game and entertainment sectors together into one service. Admittedly, PlayStation seems to be focusing on offering an Xbox Game Pass competitor. With initiatives like the PlayStation Plus Collection and PlayStation Now, it’s easy to see the similarities. However, being able to offer movies and TV shows alongside a library of games could give Sony the edge over Microsoft’s subscription services.

Of course, Sony hasn’t officially confirmed any plans to launch PlayStation Plus Video Pass outside of Poland. At time of writing, it’s unclear whether it’s set to launch locally or globally. The service could be intended for specific countries, with some markets perhaps being more prosperous than others.

Hopefully, PlayStation Plus Video Pass will be rolled out globally in the near future.
