A New Witcher Game Is Being Launched Later This Year

A new Witcher game from CD Projekt Red is apparently on the way, but it’s not what you’d normally expect. It’s set to be revealed sometime this year.

According to IGN, a new Witcher Gwent game currently titled Project Golden Nekker is currently in development at CD Projekt Red. The Gwent team is aiming to provide a “captivating single-player experience” that differs from previous versions of the game. It will be a completely standalone game, and you won’t need any previous versions to play it.

Gwent was a card game you could play in the original release of The Witcher 3. And it quickly proved to be popular with fans. In 2018, Gwent: The Witcher Card Game was released as a standalone version of the digital card game. And a piece of single-player content, Thronebreaker: The Witcher Tales, was later released as a standalone expansion with a bigger focus on story.

According to Gwent Comms Lead Paweł Burza, Project Golden Nekker will be something different from previous iterations. “It’s not another Witcher Tales [game] but something different,” Burza said. “We’re aiming to provide a captivating single-player for players who prefer it over competitive multiplayer Gwent.”

CD Projekt Red have been teasing the title for a few months in developer streams. But this is the first official confirmation of the game existing. No other details were provided in the reveal from IGN. But it was speculated that Project Golden Nekker might release some time in October.

The current-gen ports of The Witcher 3 and Cyberpunk 2077 are also expected some time in 2022. Cyberpunk is set to release in the first quarter of 2022, while The Witcher 3 currently has a planned release window of the second quarter.
