A Standard 500GB PS4 Might Not Fit CoD Games Anymore

Heads up! Activision has warned that the PlayStation 4’s 500GB hard drive might be too small for its Call of Duty series.

According to a report by Eurogamer, the latest Call of Duty: Warzone update is 17GB in size but requires an additional 100GB to install. This means that if you want to download the newest Warzone update, you’ll need to find 100GB of free space on your console. This is especially frustrating for PS5 users, as the console doesn’t currently support external PS5 game storage.

A “Prepare for Launch” warning was issued by Activision in anticipation of such frustrations, which advised the following to players:

“Those who own a standard PlayStation 4 with a default hard drive of 500 GB may need to make room if they have the full versions of Modern Warfare®/Warzone and Black Ops Cold War with all modes and packs installed.”

“Should you have both games installed and have kept up to date with updates, you may need to delete some unused game content to have a successful download and install of the Warzone patch tonight,”

What If We Only Want To Play One Game?

Activision has also pointed out that if players simply want to play CoD Black Ops: Cold War, or even just Warzone on its own, then they can do so without downloading both. Players can also choose specific data packs tailored to what they want to play. This should help CoD players prepare for upcoming updates for the games they actually want to play.

Luckily, Sony has announced that its PS5 console will be able to expand its storage, thanks to a firmware update that’s coming this summer (via VGC). As for the PlayStation 4? Well, perhaps the console’s 500GB model is starting to show its age. The PS4’s hard drive can be upgraded and is easily removable, which might buy some users some time, especially those struggling to get their hands on a PS5.
