According to Pawel Kapala’s LinkedIn profile, the ex-CDPR dev is now a “principal gameplay designer” at Playground. In their new role, Kapala will be “designing and implementing combat in Fable“, which suggests the reboot will have a completely new combat system and mechanics. While Microsoft hasn’t explicitly confirmed this, video game reboots and remakes more often than now feature new mechanics, as well as aesthetic changes and graphical overhauls.

So, what does this mean for the new Fable game? Well, the RPG could feature mechanics closely related to CDPR’s Witcher series. However, perhaps Playgrounds is looking to flesh an entirely new system out in its Fable reboot. In fact, Kapala’s role could involve ensuring the game’s combat doesn’t fall into the repetitive tropes of the original 2004 experience.

Let’s hope Pawel Kapala’s creativity gives Microsoft’s new Fable project the edge it needs to stand out. Sure, the Fable franchise is renowned. However, the market is chock-full of fantasy adventures. Regardless of what the finished product looks like, we wish Pawel Kapala the best of luck in their new role. I mean, dreaming up the various ways you can hack Hobbes in two sounds like a dream job to me.
