Working from home is still the norm for the majority of the creative industry, and though working on the likes of Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse 2 from your bedroom might seem a little far-fetched, it’s apparently something that the staff at Rick and Morty haven’t been fazed by.
A first look at the next season of everyone’s favourite duo has officially been revealed during the Adult Swim Con, an online Twitch livestream which replaced the channel’s usual Comic Con panel appearances.
The episode is pretty far from being complete, featuring just the character outlines, rough animations and the relevant voice over. However, even in its unpolished form, it’s still looking as action-packed as ever.
As you can see in the video below, Morty carries a wounded Rick to their spaceship before blasting off through a closing portal.
Morty gets a date with Jessica, saves himself and Rick, and then faces off with the one and only Mr. Nimbus who, for some reason, is now a crustacean, complete with shell and trident. Check out the one minute clip below!
Show create Dan Harmon spoke of the challenges of the new season’s production, admitting that the series is pretty much entirely written at this point.
“We’re basically done writing it. The only exception is I get on these Zoom edit sessions where we’re kind of finalizing the finale of Season 5.
“It’s a crazy situation to be in because this show has notoriously kept everyone behind schedule.”
Sadly we don’t yet know when Rick and Morty season five will air, but it’s a safe bet to say it’s not coming in 2020 (like most things). Hopefully we won’t get another season split as we did with season four, which was split into two batches of episodes released over a period of months.
