Respawn Entertainment’s Apex Legends has surprised and enthralled the gaming community by actually being a great free-to-play battle royale. In just the first week of its launch the game saw a shockingly huge 25 million players log in and battle, and it’s fast-becoming serious business in the competitive esports field as well.
Apex isn’t just a hit for players though, but also for viewers. It’s climbed the Twitch ranks and even took the spot of Epic Games’ Fortnite as the most-watched Twitch game for a while.
Now, Apex has gone one step further, achieving the fourth-highest single-day views on Twitch in five years. Twitch tracker Gamoloco shows that on February 12th, the day of the Twitch Rivals Apex event, 8.4 million hours of matches were watched.

What’s really important to note is that that’s one million more people than Fortnite‘s top single-day viewing. Last July, the game’s fifth season saw 7.2 million hours of watch time [via GamesIndustry].
It looks like the gaming behemoth that is Fortnite finally has some deserving competition, with lots of people admitting they’re leaving Fortnite in favour of Apex...
