The gaming community gets a bit of a bad rep for being…well, for being toxic. Sure, the gaming community can have its mean moments, but sometimes it’s a seriously wholesome place.
The latter is true over on Reddit right now, where thousands have upvoted a post encouraging Apex Legends players to donate to charity – all because of the Mozambique memes.

The Mozambique memes stem from the frankly awful gun of the same name in Apex, which people really, really despise. However, in light of the deadly Cyclone Idai which has hit Mozambique, one player wanted to turn the meme into something really special.
A Redditor by the name of RotoDAP writes: “Hey r/Apexlegends!
“I know we’re all fans of the Mozambique memes! Let’s use the power of this sub and reddit to make a difference! Mozambique was just hit with a deadly cyclone and needs our help.
“Please please donate to the International Committee of the Red Cross here! International Committee of the Red Cross
“[Edit 2]: Link to comment from u/StormerXLR8 with more places to donate!
“[Edit 3]: Another org, IRIS, suggested by u/glorycloud here.”

The thread has absolutely blown up on Reddit, resulting in an influx in donations to the various charities listed in the post.
In the comments one user even suggested that Respawn Entertainment help the cause by selling a skin for the in-game weapon, with the proceeds being donated.
One Redditor said: “Ohhh, hell yes. I’d buy a Mozambique flag skin for the Mozambique, especially if the money’s going to helping Mozambique!
“Helping Mozambique with the Mozambique
“That’s 5 Mozambiques(now 6) in one comment by the way, I counted.”

Another offered up the suggestion of clothing, saying: “Or do like Bungie did when the earthquake hit Nepal; they make t-shirts. I’d love to rock an Apex Mozambique t around town. ?? have their flag inside the silhouette of a mozzy, and have it say ‘Mozambique here!'”
It’s not known how much has been donated to the cause, but it’s an incredibly nice gesture from the Apex community.
