It’s been announced that an animated Magic: The Gathering series will be making its way to Netflix – and it’s going to be spearheaded by some of the biggest names in the industry.
Avengers: Endgame directors Joe and Anthony Russo will be teaming up with Netflix, Wizards of the Coast and Hasbro to oversee the series, meaning it’s in some really safe hands.
Even more excitingly, the animation studio tied to the project is none other than Bardel Entertainment, who you might know from a little show called Rick and Morty.
According to a press release from Netflix, the show will “expand on the stories of the Planeswalkers, which are Magic’s unique magic-wielding heroes and villains.”
No release date for the series has yet been announced, but could it be one of the things we’ll see at E3 2019?
In a clearly very orchestrated conversation last month, Netflix and E3 had a chat over Twitter about the upcoming event, and Netflix revealed it’ll be having a panel at the show.
Netflix said to E3: “Definitely want to hang but we also have some gaming news in the works we can talk about. How about a panel?”
E3 responded with a cheeky: “I think we can squeeze you in. What’s the panel called?”
Netflix naturally name-dropped its upcoming Stranger Things pixel game, but also promised that “there’s definitely more to come.”
Sounds interesting! Could this Magic: The Gathering series be one of the things we can expect from this year’s show? Could we be getting a trailer, or will Netflix be relying on its upcoming The Witcher series?
