Avengers Producer Reveals Which Single Hero Could Defeat Thanos

The fourth Phase of the Marvel Cinematic Universe is about to begin, and fans are ready to embrace a whole new world for the Avengers. Earth’s Mightiest Heroes will undoubtedly be worrying which villain is the next big bad they have to face.

After building up Josh Brolin’s Thanos as the ultimate brute of the first three phases, the Mad Titan finally fell in the closing moments of Avengers: Endgame. It may have been a group effort, but it turns out one of the Avengers could’ve kicked his ass on their own.

Speaking to ComicBook at this year’s Comic-Con International, MCU boss Kevin Feige explains how Wanda Maximoff, aka Scarlet Witch, fits into the franchise’s future:

“We’re introducing Monica Rambeau in that WandaVision show… Wanda Maximoff, who is probably near the upper echelons of power.”

Feige went on to explain, “I contend she would have taken down Thanos if he hadn’t called the [army], it was done — so her being the Scarlet Witch now, as Lizzie said on stage in a full sort of unabashed power-based [way], coming into the Doctor Strange movie, that is two heroes coming together in a fun way.”

While the likes of Thor and Captain Marvel seem like they’d be likely candidates to topple Thanos, we famously saw them struggle toward the end of Avengers: Endgame.

Audiences will remember how Maximoff was kicking the living crap out of 2014 Thanos before he called his army in to lend a hand. Ultimately, it doesn’t look like we’ll ever to see a one-on-one face-off between Scarlet Witch and Thanos considering he was dusted by Tony Stark.

She’s an unusual choice considering Scarlet Witch’s nerfed powers in the MCU. Although we briefly saw the results of Maximoff losing control during Captain America: Civil War, she spent most of Infinity War trying to save Vision and most of her Endgame runtime as a pile of dust.

However, with her own Disney+ spin-off show and a mysterious role in Doctor Strange and the Multiverse of Madness, there’s a sense that we’ve only just scratched the surface of Scarlet Witch’s true abilities.

Elizabeth Olsen seems to be in it for the long run, and let’s also remember the character’s X-Men origins. Even if Feige is holding off until at least Phase 5 to introduce Charles Xavier’s gifted youngsters, Maximoff has a pretty famous comic book daddy.

Those up on their comics will know Scarlet Witch is the biological daughter of Magneto. Even if the MCU hasn’t alluded to this connection (thanks to Fox previously owning the X-Men rights), there could be one hell of a showdown in the franchise’s future.

Either way, it’s a relief to know that Scarlet Witch can come to the rescue if the Avengers ever find themselves in another tight spot.
