The Back 4 Blood Devs Know The Game Is Too Hard For You

Back 4 Blood developer Turtle Rock Studios recapped its November 2021 Update Stream in a Reddit post last week where it acknowledged the game is too hard as it stands.

Fans have been finding the difficulty in Back 4 Blood a bit too hard. In the post, Turtle Rock said, “We hear your concerns about the game’s difficulty across all platforms… and we’d like to address them directly.” The developer said the difficulty needs to be its like a baby bear. “It needs to be “just right.” We want it tense. We want it challenging,” said Turtle Rock. “We do not want it to be unfair. That is our mission. Players must have agency. They must win and lose, prevail or perish, by their own actions.”

Turtle Rock is planning on changing the difficulty in the game a couple of ways. Firstly, it’ll be changing the spawn rate of Ridden Mutations. Trauma damage was also being dealt out too quickly, which appeared to be the result of a bug. The studio has identified and fixed the issue, but hasn’t been applied to offline training yet. It’s also working on addressing the frustration of matching up with players using speedrunning builds. And it’ll continue nerfing and buffing various melee cards as is appropriate.

It’s great to see Turtle Rock being so open with the balancing of the game. In recent years, open communication has proven very successful with players of online games. It means players can provide direct feedback, and developers can improve games in an impactful way.
