Bandai Namco Wants To Work With Fantasy Author Brandon Sanderson

Fantasy author Brandon Sanderson has apparently been approached by Elden Ring publisher Bandai Namco for a potential future collaboration.

Last week (March 30), Sanderson, the author best known for his Mistborn and Stormlight Archive novels, opened up a package from Elden Ring publisher Bandai Namco on a livestream. The package contained a range of items, including a wood carving of Malenia, a cloak, a sword, as well as some smaller items.

Most interestingly though, is a note that Sanderson received alongside the package. “They are interested in perhaps doing something together, is what that says,” said Sanderson on the stream. “I am as well, actually. This is how I roll: I actually have a pitch for them in the back of my head… so I may have to send them my pitch and see what they think.”

And it doesn’t sound like Sanderson is that unprepared for the idea either. As he already has a pitch for a Soulsborne game in his head. “I always have a pitch for everything,” Sanderson said later on in the stream.

That’s the thing. Like, ‘if I were ever going to do a Soulsborne game, what would I do?’ You guys know what happened when I thought, ‘I wondered what I would do if I ever wrote a Magic: The Gathering story?’

I spent four years developing a Magic: The Gathering story so that when Magic contacted me and said, ‘hey, do you want to write a story?’ I could say, ‘yes, I already have one, and I will write it!

Bandai Namco is looking to expand the Elden Ring IP, so it could be that it is interested in getting Sanderson to help do so. But for not we’ll just have to wait and see if anything concrete develops from this.
