The statement read: “It is with great emotion that we announce that Worldwide Studios Chairman Shawn Layden will be departing SIE. His visionary leadership will be greatly missed. We wish him success in future endeavors and are deeply grateful for his years of service. Thanks for everything, Shawn!”
It has not yet been announced exactly when he will be leaving, or who his successor will be but they’ve got big shoes to fill if the comment section on the tweet is anything to go by. Nor did they reveal any reason why he would be choosing to step down from the company.
Outside of business, he’s the face of Sony’s E3 offerings. He’s been within the company for an impressive 32 years. His departure comes just before the long-awaited release of Kojima’s Death Stranding, and ahead of the launch of the PS5 – which is due to land next year.
He will also not be around for the releases of projects he has overseen during his time with the company, such as Ghosts Of Tsusima and The Last Of Us Part 2.
