Blizzard Announces World of Warcraft Animated Series

Blizzard has revealed that an animated World of Warcraft series will be dropping later this week as part of the upcoming gamescom 2020 reveals.

Entitled “Afterlives,” the series will be dropping on Thursday, August 27. Details are thin on the ground right now, but a teaser video for the show gives us just a little insight into what we can expect.

“Just as our choices determine who we are in life – they pave the paths we take in the afterlife,” the video’s description reads. “Prepare to delve into four realms of the Shadowlands – Bastion, Maldraxxus, Ardenweald, and Revendreth – and discover the journeys souls take once they cross the eternal veil.”

Sounds VERY interesting! If you haven’t yet seen it, check out the show’s teaser trailer below.

It’s believed that Afterlives will be a series of online shorts, similar to previous Blizzard projects we’ve seen in the past.

Reactions to the trailer are overwhelmingly positive, with many commenters praising the graphics and overall look of the animation. Thankfully we don’t have too long to wait to see the show in action, as it’s dropping tomorrow!

In related news, Blizzard has just honoured beloved streamer and pro gamer, Reckful, who died earlier this year by suicide aged just 31. The content creator was arguably best known for his World of Warcraft and Hearthstone videos and streams, and was a key component of both communities. Now his legacy has been fully realised within WoW, thanks to Blizzard.

A new NPC by the name of Reckful has been added into the MMORPG, appearing as a Rogue Trainer in Shadowlands. The NPC serves as a memorial to Reckful and all his efforts within the WoW community.

The NPC has his own unique dialogue options, with the player being able to say to him: “It was good seeing you again.”

Good going, Blizzard!
