Rock band Bring Me The Horizon is currently winning the internet thanks to the drop of their brand-new song, Parasite Eve. The track is a bonafide banger, and if you haven’t heard it yet, I strongly recommend you go and have a listen (after you’ve finished reading this article, of course).

Sadly, PlayStation fans like myself may have been a little disappointed to see “Parasite Eve” trending across social media and not have it relate to the iconic late-90s video game series. However, the band has confirmed that the Square games are exactly where the name of their new song has come from.
In an interview with NME, Bring Me The Horizon’s Oli Sykes spoke a little about the inspiration behind the new song, confirming that the Parasite Eve game series definitely played a role in its creation.

He confirmed to the publication that he “borrowed the title from an old PlayStation game,” noting that the Bring Me The Horizon song’s themes of outbreaks and pandemics were a core part of the video game.
In case you don’t remember Parasite Eve (the game), the description from Parasite Eve Fandom reads as follows: “The story follows an intelligent half-white half-Japanese New York City police officer named Aya Brea, and her struggle against an ancient evil called ‘Eve’ threatening humanity, animals, and all life on Earth.
“The horrifying bond between Aya and Eve will continue until one of them dies. The player, as Aya Brea, must hunt down the biological entity known as Eve, as well as mutated monsters along the way. The player must upgrade Aya’s weapons and hidden mitochondrial powers to save New York City.”
