Call of Duty: Modern Warfare and Warzone have changed the name of one of their most controversial skins following backlash from the community. The games’ most recent patch, released yesterday, has changed the name of the D-Day “Border War” skin to “Home on the Range.”

The renaming comes following complaints that the “Border War” name glorified the police during a time where many call for the defunding and reallocation of funding for police services.
The description for the skin has also been changed. It once read: “Show them the error of their ways and make them pay with D-Day’s Border War operator skin.”
The new description now reads: “Play along with the deer and the antelope with the Home on the Range D-Day operator skin.”
There’s been no physical changes to the skin, which looks the same as always, featuring the word “police” across the chest.
The decision to rename the skin has been met with backlash online, with many players criticising the choice. However, many people support the decision and question why the original name was chosen in the first place.
The change is just one of a few (so far) which have been implemented by Infinity Ward following backlash during the ongoing Black Lives Matter movement, which seeks to readdress systemic racism and police brutality.

The company has confirmed it’s cracking down on racist language, user tags and toxic behaviour within the community. Meanwhile, the “OK” hand gesture has also been removed from the games amidst allegations of its connection to white supremacy.
In a statement earlier this year, Infinity Ward said the following: “There is no place for racist content in our game. This is an effort we began with launch and we need to do a better job. We’re missing thousands of daily bans of racist and hate-oriented names.”
