Call of Duty: Modern Warfare was rumoured to launch with a Battle Royale mode, and though it’s taken its time, Warzone is officially here. Interestingly for those who don’t already own Modern Warfare, the BR game will still be available to play, touted as a “free to play” game with the option to upgrade.
However, the claim comes with a pretty big caveat, as it seems that Xbox One players will only be able to dive into Warzone if they’re an Xbox Live Gold subscriber. The news comes via CoD page, CharlieINTEL.
It’s a big yikes, considering that PlayStation Plus ISN’T needed to play Warzone, and though you’ll need a Blizzard Battle.net account to play on PC, they’re free to make.
Naturally players are pretty peeved at the news.
For those who’re still eagerly awaiting Warzone, the good news is the wait is nearly over, as the game will be available to play at some point today (March 10) depending on your region.
The download goes lives 8AM PT on March 10 for those who own Modern Warfare, with a 18-22GB update.
If you don’t own MW, Warzone will be free to play from 12PM PT on March 10 with a 80-100GB download.
On the Activision blog, the company writes: “Call of Duty: Warzone is a new free-to-play, massive combat experience from the world of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare®. And we mean massive: Warzone delivers a huge gaming experience for up to 150 players in the incredibly expansive map of Verdansk.”
Confirmed vehicles for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare include the ATV, Tactical Rover, SUV, Cargo Truck and Helicopter. The map itself is roughly four times the size of Blackout, and will support up to 150 players per match.
The only question now is…where we dropping?
