1997’s DOOM 64 Is Getting Brand-New Content Thanks To DOOM Eternal

1997’s DOOM 64 is an undeniable classic, and thanks to the upcoming launch of DOOM Eternal, it’s set to get some brand-new content. Despite being nearly 23 years old, DOOM 64 is about to get some new additions – including a whole never-before-seen mission.

The news comes from the game’s senior developer, James Haley, who opened up to USGamer about what’s coming for DOOM fans this month.

In case you missed it, DOOM Eternal drops on PC and console on March 20, and it’ll launch alongside a port of DOOM 64. According to Haley, this isn’t just a straight rip of the 1997 icon.

“Persistent players will have the opportunity to unlock a new chapter in the Doomguy’s saga, taking place shortly after [Doom 64’s] original campaign concludes,” Haley told USGamer.

“The Mother Demon you defeated in that outing had a sister, and since you’ve been messing up Hell non-stop, she tries to get rid of you by sending you away. If you can make your way back and take revenge, you’ll be rewarded with a bit of lore that fans of both series, new and classic, should enjoy.”

Along with the new content comes some exciting new ways to bring DOOM 64 back to life. The game’s port, which comes from Nightdive Studios, will make use of motion controls on Nintendo Switch and PS4. You’ll also be able to use automap navigation via the Switch’s touchscreen and the PS4’s touchpad.

For PC and Xbox One gamers, mouse and keyboard control options will be available.
