The cancelled war game Six Days in Fallujah is now back in development, with former Halo and Destiny members working on the project.
Six Days in Fallujah is a tactical shooter that focuses on the events of the Iraq War. The game’s concept was initially conceived in 2005 by former Marine Sergeant Eddie Garcia, who was wounded in battle during the Battle for Fallujah. Garcia described how he thinks video games can help depict the realities of the Iraq War:
“Sometimes the only way to understand what’s true is to experience reality for yourself. War is filled with uncertainty and tough choices that can’t be understood by watching someone on a TV or movie screen make these choices for you. Video games can help all of us understand real-world events in ways other media can’t.”

Originally being handled by Atomic Games and set to be published by Konami in 2009, the project was cancelled due to the controversy of covering real and controversial world events. Under the care of Victura, headed by ex-Atomic Games CEO Peter Tamte, the game is now back in production. Victura claims that its goal is to bring players a range of games based on true stories, as well as the cancelled Six Days in Fallujah.
In a recent press statement, Tamte made the following comments in regards to creating games based on real-life events:

“It’s hard to understand what combat is actually like through fake people doing fake things in fake places. This generation showed sacrifice and courage in Iraq as remarkable as any in history. And now they’re offering the rest of us a new way to understand one of the most important events of our century. It’s time to challenge outdated stereotypes about what video games can be.”

Victura also said that “Six Days in Fallujah aims to be the most authentic military shooter to date and to tell these military and civilian stories with the integrity they deserve.”
Six Days in Fallujah is set to release on consoles and PC in 2021, with more information to come about the project soon.
