The previously shelved Castlevania mobile game is getting an Apple Arcade release, according to a recent announcement. Let’s take a look at Castlevania: Grimoire of Souls!
Revealed by the Apple Arcade Twitter account, Castlevania: Grimoire of Souls will now be exclusive to the subscription service. While the game was previously “soft-launched” in Canada back in 2019, it failed to get a release worldwide:
“Coming Soon to Apple Arcade: @Castlevania: Grimoire of Souls Slash your way through Dracula’s army in the return of this beloved gothic fantasy series. Play as Alucard or other legendary characters as you take on the demonic horde. To the castle: http://apple.co/castlevania“
So, what actually is Castlevania: Grimoire of Souls? Well, it’s actually a 2D Castlevania caper. Featuring five playable characters from across the Castlevania franchise, Grimoire of Souls is a must-play for fans and retro enthusiasts. The game’s Apple Store page also states that more playable characters are coming to the platformer as well as new equipment and daily/weekly missions.
Who knows, perhaps Grimoire of Souls’ second wind will help spur on more Castlevania releases in the future. While Konami hasn’t made a new Castlevania game for quite some time, a collection of Game Boy Advance classics is apparently on the horizon.
Netflix has also announced a spin-off of its animated Castlevania show, which focuses on Richter Belmont and his adventures during the French Revolution. While this doesn’t necessarily mean that Konami will make a new Castlevania adventure, the franchise’s success could increase the possibility.
