CD Projekt Red Hasn’t Ruled Out A Witcher Game Starring Ciri

CD Projekt Red may have dismissed the idea of The Witcher 4, but it sounds like a Ciri-focused spin-off game might not be too far fetched.

During a recent Q and A, CD Projekt Red principal writer Jakub Szamałek responded to that very idea, which was put forward by VG24/7. When asked if the team had considered continuing the series with Ciri as the lead, Szamałek teased: “Interesting question. Would you like to play a game with Ciri as a lead character?”

Later in the conversation, Szamałek went on to add: “I regret we didn’t get to explore Ciri’s past a bit more. She’s such an amazingly rich and complex character,

“Due to obvious reasons – well, she’s pretty much gone for two thirds of the game – she didn’t get quite as much screen time as we writers would have liked. But hey, maybe it’s something we’ll get to get back to in the future.”

Personally, Ciri is one of the best book characters of all time, and I’m keen to see more of her in both the Netflix adaptation of the franchise, and whatever CDPR might have in store for the future.

Earlier this year, a new addition to The Witcher game series was said to begin development “immediately” following the launch of CD Projekt Red’s next massive RPG, Cyberpunk 2077. However, it’s also been confirmed that this new adventure won’t be The Witcher 4.

CD Projekt president Adam Kiciński revealed that a “relatively clear concept” has been laid down for the next adventure in the team’s single player games. He added that full production would begin “immediately” after Cyberpunk 2077 lands on store shelves.

He went on to add that every game CD Projekt Red has planned right now will be based on either The Witcher or Cyberpunk universes. The new Witcher game has been assigned to a smaller team, while continued development on Cyberpunk 2077 will be handled by Red’s two larger teams.

Sadly, we’re not getting The Witcher 4.

“We’ve been working on the next single-player game already, creating a clear concept that waits for further development,” said Kiciński.

“I already said there will be no Witcher 4. I clearly said that Witcher was a trilogy. Simultaneously, we’ve always emphasised that we want to create Witcher games and the agreement with [book series author] Mr. Sapkowski confirmed our rights.”

Give me a Ciri spin-off, please!!
