CD Projekt Red Stolen Data Has Reportedly Leaked Online

Stolen data from CD Projekt Red servers has apparently leaked online, which includes source code for The Witcher 3 and Cyberpunk 2077.

In February, CDPR revealed that it had fallen victim to a cyberattack, resulting in its internal systems being compromised. Subsequently, the publisher’s server data was then put up for auction on the black market, which eventually lead to a private sale. However, according to databreaches.net, the data has now found its way online [via VGC].

Of course, while the leak means that potentially anyone could get their hands on the data, there is a catch. According to a text document posted to Resetera, a ten dollar donation is required to access the files. Additionally, as proof of the leak’s legitimacy, the group has apparently released developer kits for the PS4, PS5 and Xbox Series X that are not password protected.

The hacker group, known as HelloKitty, previously stated that if CD Projekt Red failed to “come to an agreement” with them after 48 hours, they would sell or leak the publisher’s data. As you’d expect, CDPR declined to cooperate with the hackers, instead opting to contact law enforcement and IT specialists.

So, what does this data leak mean for CD Projekt Red? While the breach has severe implications for the company’s source code, the leak also includes accounting, legal and HR information. Therefore, the data leak could compromise the safety of both CDPR and individuals related to the company. Hopefully, the leak doesn’t contain any data that could result in the latter.

It’s needless to say that 2021 has been a tough year for CD Projekt Red. While the company is working towards transforming Cyberpunk 2077 with a host of updates, it still has a lot on its plate. Last week, the publisher confirmed that four class-action lawsuits being brought against it had been consolidated. The company also stated that Sony hasn’t signalled whether Cyberpunk 2077 can return to its digital storefront.

Anyway, let’s hope things start to pick up for CD Projekt Red soon!
