Captain America actor Chris Evans has responded to rumours that he’ll be reprising his role in another Marvel cinematic masterpiece.
This week, we heard reports that Chris Evans was set to reprise his role as the star spangled Captain America, despite the fact his story game to a happy end after the events of Endgame.
Well it looks like someone forgot to inform the Cap that he’s coming out of retirement, as Chris Evans has weighed in on the news with a very straight to the point response.
“News to me,” the actor tweeted following the reports.
While it’s entirely possible that Marvel’s top Avenger is simply being coy, his blunt disregard for the rumours puts something of a big hole in their authenticity. Further doubt can also be placed on the rumours based on the fact that the Avengers are reportedly not going to feature in Marvel’s Phase 4 of film and TV.
The original report via Deadline had made the following statement about the future role of Steve Rogers in the MCU:
“It’s still vague whether the deal is closed, but insiders say it’s headed in that direction for Evans to return as Steve Rogers aka Captain America in at least one Marvel property, with the door open for a second film.
“Sources add it’s unlikely to be a new Captain America installment and more likely to be like what Robert Downey Jr. did after Iron Man 3, appearing in such films as Captain America: Civil War and Spider-Man: Homecoming.”
Sure, there’s every possibility that Captain America, or Steve Rogers for that matter, could show up in some way or form in the future. Whether this is as part of a flashback, or even as his old, retired self, it’s not irrational to think he’ll re-emerge at some point.
After all, Marvel even suggested that the Avengers would make their eventual return at some point. While this is vague, it gives fans some hope that their favourite original heroes might once again take to the streets and cause a lot of collateral damage while saving the earth.
Again, at this stage we practically know nothing about the future of the Avengers and their role in the MCU. Until we do, it’s best to just kick back and enjoy a whole new generation of comic book chapters both big and small.
