Stardew Valley developer Eric “ConcernedApe” Barone has announced that he is now handling all publishing duties related to the game.
Announcing the news on Twitter yesterday, Barone wrote “I’m now self-publishing Stardew Valley on Android. With this change, I’m now self publishing the game on all digital platforms.”
As well as this, Barone also held a Q&A, inviting fans to ask whatever questions they might have. We finally got an answer as to why the grandfather’s bed looks so weird, as Barone said “The intro cutscene I added at the last minute and that’s why grandpa’s bed looks so weird, but now it’s part of the lore.”
Offering some advice to an aspiring developer, he wrote “Make the game that you love, that you are excited to work on that you will jump over any hurdle to bring it to life. The actual software or approach you use is not so important. If you have the drive, you’ll find a way.” It’s well worth scrolling through the rest of the replies to see other things Barone answered.
Prior to this, Chucklefish handled Stardew Valley publishing duties for the Android version of the game. The company also published Stardew Valley on other platforms up until 2019. At the time Barone distanced himself from Chucklefish due to reports of alleged use of unpaid labour on games such as Starbound.
Chucklefish has also released a blogpost discussing its history with Stardew Valley. The post speaks about how much the team enjoyed working on the game, as well as listed everything they contributed.
