Whether your firearm of choice is a trusty revolver or a fancy rifle with a telescopic scope, whether you like to blast your foes close-range with a double-barrelled shotgun or prefer to keep your distance with a repeater, Arthur’s weapons need love and care in Red Dead Redemption 2. It’s your responsibility to keep them nice and clean so as to avoid degradation and the subsequent loss of firepower.
How do you clean your guns in Red Dead Redemption 2?
It’s actually extremely easy. When you have a spare minute, go to your satchel by holding down the right button on the D-pad. Scroll along your bag to ‘kit’ to make sure you have some gun oil in your inventory. If you don’t, it’s easy enough to find, priced at around $1.50 at most general stores (depending on your reputation rating). You might already have some, as it’s possible to find gun oil looted from enemies (or regular folk, if you’re an outlaw type).
Open up your weapon wheel with L1 or LB, and scroll to the weapon you need to get cleaned up. You can see the condition of your guns at the bottom of the stats list, with a more empty bar indicating that you need to give it a seeing to. Press the right stick in whilst hovering over the gun of your choice, and Arthur will take it out and look at it, showing the list of gun stats with red bars showing how much less horrendous your weapon will be once you get it cleaned up. Then, simply press Square (or X on Xbox One) to use 1 gun oil and clean the gun up. Holding Square at the same time as this makes Arthur clean it slightly faster too.
Now, go get yourself and your arsenal cleaned up, and get adventuring, cowpoke!
