Last week saw Infinity Ward and Activision implement a brand-new way to stop cheaters in Call of Duty: Warzone. The free-to-play Battle Royale game – like most free-to-play games – has had a pretty big cheating problem since it launched back in March, with the majority of fun-ruiners playing on PC.
Now anyone playing Warzone on PC will have to use two-step SMS authentication in a move which Infinity Ward called “another step to provide an additional layer of security for players.”
Just a few days later, and we’re already seeing Warzone cheaters “whine” about the new step, which has definitely thrown a spanner in the works of anyone looking to cheat in the game.
As spotted by Eurogamer, Reddit has been blowing up with the news. One viral post is a thank-you to Infinity Ward, where the user writes: “Cheaters forums are now full of whining people that can’t play anymore. What a wonderful feeling. Thank you, IW.”
Check out the post, which features a screenshot of said “whiny” CoD cheater (Reddit’s words, not mine), below!

Last month, gamers sick of dealing with PC cheaters turned off the cross-play functionality of the game when playing, meaning those on console would only be playing with those on the same console. It was a sloppy yet effective way to stop having to deal with PC cheaters, but pretty useless for PC gamers playing the game legitimately.
Thankfully it seems as the though the new anti-cheat measures are already having an effect – and it looks like this is just the beginning! Activision has confirmed that over 70,000 players have been banned from the game already, so it’s about time we’re seeing something actively making a difference to the numbers.
Gg, Infinity Ward!
