Cult horror classic Amnesia is going open world with its newest release “The Bunker” aiming to launch in 2023.
When the first Amnesia game was released in 2010 with The Dark Descent, it arguably revolutionised the run-and-hide horror genre. It also helped catapult the careers of popular YouTubers including PewDiePie and Markiplier.
Amnesia is a classic horror series
On PC, Amnesia: The Dark Descent earned a respectable Metacritic score of 85. Its sequel, A Machine for Pigs scored lower with 72. While the third entry, Rebirth clawed the series back a little with a score of 80 on PC as well as 75 for PS4.
However, despite remaining a popular horror series for over a decade, it seems that the developers at Frictional Games are looking to freshen up the formula. Amnesia: The Bunker is taking the series open world. Well, kind of.

Amnesia: The Bunker looks to shake things up
In Amnesia: The Bunker: “players are equipped with high levels of freedom to impact gameplay, choosing their playstyle as they explore this semi-open world.” Furthermore, the fourth main entry in this series promises “hardly any unscripted events” to maintain tension and keep players on their toes as they adapt to the situation at hand.
Armed with a revolver as well as a “noisy” dynamo flashlight, that will likely draw the attention of the monsters lurking within the shadows, players must find a way to escape an eerie and “ill-lighted” World War 2 bunker.

Can you escape the Amnesia horror of the bunker?
As well as facing horrific nightmares, players will also be required to tackle some good old puzzle-solving as well as other challenging obstacles as you navigate the unnerving, claustrophobic corridors of the WW2 bunker.
What’s more, with scarce resources and a persistent threat, all your wits and cunning will be required if you are to survive the horrors.

When will Amnesia: The Bunker be released?
Amnesia: The Bunker will release in March 2023 for PC, PS4, Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S. Oddly, at least according to the press release and trailer, there is no mention of PS5.
