With Cyberpunk 2077 update 2.0 due to drop tomorrow, developers have advised players to be prepared to start a new playthrough.
Cyberpunk 2077 update 2.0 launches on September 21 ahead of the game’s Phantom Liberty expansion releasing on September 26. What may seem like a standard update will actually rehaul the entire base game and will feature a “number of changes”.
It is perhaps no surprise then that CD Projekt are advising players to start over with a brand new save despite the patch being compatible with existing saves.
Cyberpunk 2077 Devs Advise Starting A New Playthrough
“Hey, chooms! While you’ll be able to continue the game with your current character on an existing save, we recommend starting a new game after [Cyberpunk 2077] Update 2.0,” a recent CDPR support post states. “Due to the number of changes, starting fresh will enhance your overall gameplay experience!”
The upcoming patch will be free to all players despite the large overhaul.
It is set to feature a new skill tree, AI improvements (especially for the game’s police force), improved vehicle combat, revamped Cyberware and capacity systems, the ability to experience Cyberpsychosis and even a brand-new radio station to cruise around Night City with. There will even be updates to the game’s UI.
With Cyberpunk 2077’s original 2020 launch less than smooth, it is exciting to see the team dedicated to making it an enjoyable gaming experience even three years on.
Despite its rocky past, the action RPG is still sitting at a 7.1 user score on Metacritic and with a big overhaul and the arrival of Phantom Liberty, it will be interesting to see if opinions change.
