It’s been confirmed that upcoming dystopian FPS/RPG Cyberpunk 2077 won’t be as long as CD Projekt Red’s previous hit, The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt.

The news was revealed during the most recent Night City Wire event, a livestream which explores more about Cyberpunk 2077 and its world ahead of release. During the event, senior quest designer Patrick K Mills discussed the length of the game in relation to The Witcher 3, admitting that too many players didn’t complete the game.
“[A] tremendous amounts of people […] never made it to the [end of The Witcher 3]”, Mills said [via ResetEra], explaining the decision to make the game “slight shorter.”

“We do know that the main story run in Cyberpunk 2077 is slightly shorter than The Witcher 3,” Mills said elaborated.
“We got a lot of complaints about The Witcher 3’s main story just being too long. And looking at the metrics, you see tremendous amounts of people played through that game really far, but never made it to the end.

“We want you to see the whole story. So, we did shorten the main story, but we have lots to do. And in terms of a completionist campaign, I just don’t have that number.”
Though the campaign might not be the 100 hours-plus of Geralt’s last outing, it will still keep you immersed for pretty much as long as you’d like. With three different pathways with branching narratives, there’s going to be more than your average few hours of gameplay within Cyberpunk 2077.
