Sony has officially apologised to gamers after the disaster that was the PlayStation 5 pre-order period.

Following the State of Play event earlier this month, a number of retailers across the world opened their pre-orders early, meaning some gamers were able to snag a PS5 while others were not. The console began to sell out in mere minutes, causing a huge surge for demand and leaving a lot of people very upset.
PS5 consoles were being ordered just moments after the release date announcement, leading fans to scramble to secure theirs. Many retailers’ websites crashed, unable to keep up with demand, with gamers reporting issues with checking out which led to the loss of their pre-order.

This has since led to people attempting to sell their pre-ordered consoles for huge mark-ups, with some even seeking $1000 USD or more.
Now PlayStation has taken to social media to not only apologise to fans, but also to promise that more consoles will be available soon.
“Let’s be honest: PS5 preorders could have been a lot smoother,” PlayStation tweeted. “We truly apologize for that. Over the next few days, we will release more PS5 consoles for preorder – retailers will share more details. And more PS5s will be available through the end of the year.”
The honest reaction has been met with applause online, with many praising the company for its fair response to the scandal. If you’re still on the hunt to secure yourself a PS5, keep an eye out with your local retailers!
Both the PS5 and PS5 Digital Edition will roll out in select markets including North America and Japan on November 12, followed by Europe and additional regions on November 19.

The PS5 Digital Edition will be available for a recommended retail price (RRP) of £359.99 GBP/$399.99 USD, and PS5 with an Ultra HD Blu-ray™ disc drive will be available for an RRP of £449.99 GBP/$499.99 USD.
