Sony’s Bend Studio is working on a new open-world game, but unfortunately it’s not going to be Days Gone 2.
When taking part in a Q&A on the PlayStation Blog, head of PlayStation Studios Hermen Hulst revealed that the Days Gone and Syphon Filter developer is working on a new IP.
The announced new IP will be taking inspiration from the open-world of Days Gone as Hulst stated that Bend Studio will “build on the deep open words” set by the post-apocalyptic zombie game.
Hulst didn’t reveal any specific details on the new IP, the PlayStation Studios boss did also say that the development team is “very, very passionate about” the new project and that he’s “really happy for Bend Studio.”
Following the Q&A with Hulst, Bend Studio put out a tweet adding extra confirmation that they are working on a new IP.
“We are beyond grateful for your support with Days Gone and are truly honoured by the amount of passion our community has shared with us for our world and characters. Your enthusiasm motivates us to continue to improve and create experiences that will last a lifetime.
“From the Syphon Filter series to Resistance: Retribution, to Uncharted: Golden Abyss, and Days Gone, we are very excited to announce today that we are expanding the Bend Studio portfolio with a brand new IP.
“We hope you embark on this new journey with us, and we can’t wait to show you what we’ve been working on.”
Don’t get me wrong, I’m all in for new IPs, as the industry needs them. Though I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t just a little disappointed that Bend Studio isn’t working on a Days Gone sequel. Well, at least in the immediate future.
Fans have been very vocal for Days Gone 2 and surely, it’s difficult for Sony to ignore? In related Days Gone news, the post-apocalyptic zombie game is the latest PlayStation exclusive to be ported to PC.
