Death Stranding composer, Ryan Karazija passed away aged just 40 years old following complications from pneumonia.
To sum up Death Stranding as an experience, it was very much a love-it-or-hate-it kind of game. As we often say in the UK, it’s a bit like Marmite.
However, one of the aspects that most can agree on is the compelling, atmospheric and enchanting soundtrack.
Death Stranding was pleasing on the ear
The soundtrack of Death Stranding was composed by both Ludvig Forssell as well as Ryan Karazija, founder and lead singer of Low Roar.
In the world of Death Stranding, you play Sam Porter Bridges, portrayed by Norman Reedus.
Furthermore, you are a solo courier, trying to find your way in a disconnected and broken world.
At its core, despite the ever-looming feeling of loneliness, it’s about making a connection with humanity, and I truly believe Death Stranding to be one of Hideo Kojima’s finest works.

Wondering the deserted landscapes, you will often feel alone as you struggle to make deliveries from one side of the map to the other.
Not only facing perilous dangers of the terrain, but also ghostly BTs that will drag you into their underworld.
Ryan Karazija helped bring Death Stranding to life
However, in those moments of loneliness, when the soundtrack of Death Stranding would kick in while on exploration, you wouldn’t feel alone.
Moreover, you had the instant comfort of knowing that someone has your back and whatever perils you may face. We were in this together.
That was the power of the Death Stranding soundtrack, thanks to the likes of Ludvig Forssell, and of course, the late Ryan Karazija.
News of Karazija’s passing was announced on the official Low Roar Facebook page.
“After a short illness, Ryan Karazija, frontman and driving force behind Low Roar, has died at age 40 due to complications from pneumonia,” announced a post breaking the news.
“His beautiful music and lyrics, sung in his haunting voice have touched the lives of so many people all over the world and will continue to do so. He was a kind and beautiful soul and our worlds are shattered by the loss of him. May we honour his memory through his art and hold him forever in his songs.
“The sixth Low Roar record was already underway and will be completed and released when it is ready. Please respect his family’s privacy at this incredibly difficult time.
“Sometimes you feel like this is never-ending, but we all fade away…”

Hideo Kojima pays tribute to Ryan Karazija
Hideo Kojima, creator of Death Standing as well as the Metal Gear Solid series paid a touching tribute to Karazija. “I heard the news, I can’t believe it,” tweeted Kojima.
“I don’t want to believe it. Without Ryan, without you and your music, Death Stranding would not have been born. Your music will live forever in this world and in me. Thank you. Rest in peace. Low Roar Ryan Karazija (1982-2022)”
It’s always sad reporting on the deaths of others, especially for a life that has not only been taken too soon but has had such a positive impact on so many.
We at GameByte send all our love and support to the family, friends and fans of Ryan Karazija during this difficult time.
Thank you for the memories.
