Diablo 3 is Coming To Nintendo Switch – Here’s What We Know So Far

It’s been confirmed that Diablo 3 is coming to the Nintendo Switch. In this article, we’ve listed everything we know so far about the upcoming release and what we can expect from it.

It’s great to see the Nintendo Switch library growing. I honestly can’t wait to be able to play Diablo 3 whilst on the go, so this is big news.

When Is Diablo 3 Is Coming To Nintendo Switch?

So far, we don’t know when Diablo 3 is coming to the Nintendo Switch. In fact, Blizzard is trying to be very quiet about the Diablo 3 Switch port.

When asked about when Diablo 3 was coming to the Nintendo Switch, a Blizzard spokesperson said, “As of now, we do not have any current plans to announce Diablo for Switch.”

This goes against all of the rumors we have heard about Diablo 3’s Switch port, but we think Blizzard is trying to delay the truth.

Many insiders have claimed that the Diablo 3 Nintendo Switch port is in production. The original rumors were sparked after Blizzard posted a tweet that suggested Diablo 3 would be coming to the Nintendo Switch.

As expected, the tweet from Blizzard caused a lot of hype on the internet. Blizzard was forced to respond to all of the community interest. Their response mentioned that the tweet was a “fun engagement piece” and that that had no plans to announce Diablo for the Nintendo Switch.

But then, after hours of fan excitement, an official response emerged from within Blizzard apparently designed to dampen down the flames: “As of now, we do not have any current plans to announce Diablo for Switch,” a spokesperson told us.

What I think has happened is that Blizzard is working on a Nintendo Switch, and they wanted to tease it via Twitter, but the tweet blew up far larger than Blizzard had expected. Nintendo didn’t agree with Blizzard’s move to go ahead with the reveal, so they asked BLizzard to remove the tweet.

As a result, Blizzard had to go into full control mode to hide any evidence that a Nintendo Switch port for Diablo 3 was ever coming.

We’re not sure why, but Nintendo has been renowned for keeping their release schedule close to their chest. When it comes to third party releases, Nintendo usually only allows the developer and publisher to reveal the release as close to the actual release date as possible.

It may be because Nintendo wants to make sure that all hype is focused on their own first party titles.

Either way, I would take both the rumors and Blizzard’s response with a grain of salt. So far, it’s looking very likely that Diablo 3 will come to the Nintendo Switch, but it still hasn’t been confirmed.

hat Is Diablo 3?

Diablo 3 is one of the world’s most popular action RPG franchises. In action RPGs, you pick your class, create a character, and then grind your way through the different acts. As you play, you’ll level up your character, earn points to attribute to your class skill tree, and earn loot for killing mobs and defeating bosses.

Whilst there is a story in Diablo 3, most of the gameplay focuses on the loot aspect. It’s not just about the loot, though. A lot of people enjoy the hack and slash style combat that’s present in games like Diablo 3.

There are plenty of action RPG games out there, but for many people, no game in this genre can beat the Diablo franchise. This is why many people are excited about a Nintendo Switch port.

re There Any Games Like Diablo 3 On The Nintendo Switch?

If you can’t wait for the Diablo 3 Nintendo Switch port, you may be interested in some of the games on the Switch that are somewhat similar to Diablo instead.

Whilst these games below aren’t all like Diablo 3, they all share something in common with Diablo and they are great games in their own right.

All of these games besides Pillars of Eternity 2: Deadfire are already available on the Nintendo Switch.

Titan Quest

Titan Quest is a hack and slash action RPG with a top down camera angle, similar to Diablo 3. The gameplay shares many similarities with the Diablo series, including character leveling, a skill system, and randomly generated enemies.

Titan Quest also features a co-op multiplayer mode. Loot plays a core part in Titan Quest – players will receive loot from chests and from fallen enemies, and just like Diablo 3, loot will have rarity levels.

Nine Parchments

Nine Parchments is another top down action game, but gameplay is somewhat different. In Nine Parchments, players can use one stick to control movement and the other stick to control the direction of your attack.

There is a selection of heroes, which players can pick at the start of the game. Each hero has abilities that will be unlocked as the hero is leveled up.

Pillars of Eternity 2: Deadfire

Pillars of Eternity 2: Deadfire isn’t yet out on the Nintendo Switch, but it will be launching later this year.

Pillars of Eternity II will share some similarities with Diablo, including the top down perspective and some action RPG elements. There are also a number of classes available.

Gameplay will be quite different, however. Players will need to take out different jobs and there is also a customizable boat stronghold system, that allows players to build and upgrade a mobile base. This base can also be used for exploring different islands.

Implosion – Never Lose Hope

If you care more about the action and combat in Diablo 3, you may like Implosion – Never Lose Hope. Implosion is a top down action sci-fi RPG game.

The Nintendo Switch version is essentially a port of a mobile game, so with that in mind, don’t expect too much in terms of graphics and the overall scope of gameplay.
