Digital Foundry has remastered the iconic E3 2000 Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty trailer in 4K and it looks amazing.
In 2000, Konami released a brand-new announcement trailer for Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty. The highly anticipated sequel to the 1999 PlayStation classic.
Perhaps unlike more modern gaming consoles, the leap from the original PlayStation to the PlayStation 2 was huge. Not only in visuals but also from gameplay, performance, and story-telling perspective.
The PlayStation 2 gave legendary developer Hideo Kojima all the tools he needed to showcase to the world what the then “next-gen” gaming was capable of. At the forefront of that showcase was none other than Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty.
One of the best E3 trailers ever
Now, whatever you may think of the story direction that Metal Gear Solid 2 chose to go, there is little denying that its E3 2000 trailer was a joy to behold. To this day with the combination of seeing Solid Snake look so good and that unforgettable soundtrack, this trailer still gives me goosebumps.
Before now, you have been able to find reuploaded HD trailers for MGS2, but none more so to the quality of the one from Digital Foundry.

As a quick introduction, Digital Foundry is a group of technical savvy gamers that analyses video game and hardware performance. If you’re into the more technical side of gaming, I’d recommend checking out the Digital Foundry YouTube channel.
Metal Gear Solid 2 has never looked so good
In their latest piece of work, the Digital Foundry team have remastered the iconic trailer by pre-rendering video sequences using AI upscaling. The results are simply amazing, and I cannot over-appreciate their impressive work. So, thank you Digital Foundry.
You can start watching the actual remastered E3 2000 trailer from 6:38 into the video. However, I would recommend watching the whole video to see how this wizardry was put together.
You can play Metal Gear Solid in glorious HD
If you ever want to play some Metal Gear Solid HD goodness, the HD Collection is available for PS3, PS Vita, and Xbox 360. Better still, the Xbox 360 version is backwards compatible with Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S.
