Up until now, there has only been a native PS4 app for Disney Plus, especially making it backwards compatible on PS5. Sure, it says that some movies and series are available in 4K UHD, but it hasn’t been proper 4K.
Download the Disney Plus PS5 app now
Thankfully, the time has now arrived and the native PS5 app for Disney Plus is available to download now via the PS Store. If you already have the PS4 app active, you’ll need to stop using that one on PS5. Instead, find the native PS5 app and download that one.
Furthermore, if you’ve already been logged into the PS4 app, you shouldn’t have to re-login on the PS5 app. Easy peasy.
“A key part of our global expansion strategy is to meet consumers wherever they are, which is why we’re excited to enhance both Disney+ and Star+ for PS5 users,” said Jerrell Jimerson, EVP of Product & Design, Disney Streaming. “The ability to support 4K HDR video streaming on the platform will also improve the viewing experience for fans.”
While not all movies and series are currently available in 4K UHD on Disney Plus there are still plenty to choose from. The Star Wars movies are in 4K as are the majority of the TV series adaptations. You can pretty much bet that a large chunk of Disney, Pixar and Marvel movies/series are also in glorious 4K.
There are loads of 4K offerings on Disney+
You can also expect some classic movies as part of the Star+ category. Some of my personal picks include Ridley Scott’s Alien (but not Aliens, yet), the first two Predator movies as well as the new Prey offering. You can also enjoy the original Die Hard trilogy in 4K too. There really is plenty to choose from.
