DOOM (2016) and DOOM Eternal director has considered the possibility of adding a woman slayer into the series.
During a Twitch livestream with ID Software Community Manager Josh Boyle, series director Hugo Martin revealed that he’s “put a lot of thought” into adding a slayer who is a woman [via PC Gamer].
Martin also stated that if this was to happen, it would have to be in a “meaningful” way, which impacts gameplay more than just being a mere skin.
Over the years the form of the Doom Slayer or Doomguy has changed in a few different ways. Heck, we’ve even had a pink and purple Unicorn Slayer skin as part of a Prime Gaming promotion for DOOM Eternal.
However if they did create a woman slayer and she existed alongside Doomguy, it could be an interesting change to the series. Especially if they mixed up the gameplay mechanics a bit and if the story made sense!
When asked by a fan during the DOOM Eternal livestream as to whether the series might one day get a woman slayer.
“I’ve thought about it, actually. I think if we did it, I’d want it to be lethal,” said Martin. Check it out in the video.
“I think it’s interesting how it would impact the glory kills, the kind of weapons that she would have, the fighting style—certainly all aggression, absolutely, but a different type of aggression. I would really strive to allow it to impact the gameplay in a way that was meaningful. I’ve definitely put a lot of thought into that.
“When it comes to designing the action, you think about, like, if the Slayer is a Ferrari, then what would a female Slayer be? What would a medieval Slayer be? How would that affect things? What sort of analogies could you draw from that, allow that to influence the experience? So I don’t know. It definitely would be cool.“
