EA Scores Guinness World Record For Most Downvoted Comment In Reddit History

There’s a Guinness World Record for pretty much everything you can imagine nowadays, but not all of them have been intentional record-breaking attempts.

EA has just been granted the Guinness World Record for Most Downvoted Comment In Reddit History [via Kotaku/Reddit user -amasha-], and it’s possibly the funniest news I’ve heard all year.

The comment in question, which now sits at nearly 700k downvotes, is (unsurprisingly) related to EA’s highly controversial Star Wars Battlefront 2 and its unlockables.

Back in 2017, an EA community manager took to the official EA Community Team Reddit account and offered an iconically eyebrow-raising response to a player’s complaint entitled: “Seriously? I paid 80$ to have Vader locked?”

The response from the unknown EA rep reads: “The intent is to provide players with a sense of pride and accomplishment for unlocking different heroes.

“As for cost, we selected initial values based upon data from the Open Beta and other adjustments made to milestone rewards before launch. Among other things, we’re looking at average per-player credit earn rates on a daily basis, and we’ll be making constant adjustments to ensure that players have challenges that are compelling, rewarding, and of course attainable via gameplay.

“We appreciate the candid feedback, and the passion the community has put forth around the current topics here on Reddit, our forums and across numerous social media outlets.

“Our team will continue to make changes and monitor community feedback and update everyone as soon and as often as we can.”

Just to put into perspective just how big 600k of downvotes is, Reddit’s second most downvoted comment has less than 90 thousand…

A congratulations is in order for EA and its unknown community manager. Can I get a round of applause for the lucky staff member?
