Elden Ring Day 1 Patch To Fix Framerate Issues And More

FromSoftware has released a day one patch for the highly anticipated Elden Ring which looks to improve the framerate and more.

Elden Ring FAQ: Every Guide You’ll Need

Detailed on a Bandai Namco blog post, the patch aims to improve the framerate as well as controls, event fixes, text adjustment and other bugs to iron out. The patch comes after Digital Foundry discovered that the framerate on PC and new-gen consoles isn’t perhaps performing as it should.

Tech experts Digital Foundry discovered that regardless of whether you have Performance or Quality Mode, the framerate struggles to hit 60 frames-per-second. In fact, DF revealed that Quality Mode varies between 30FPS to 60FPS, but rarely hits its peak FPS. While Performance Mode varies between 45FPS to 60FPS.

Thankfully, it seems that FromSoftware is looking to address the framerate issues, though there is an interesting choice of wording in the patch notes. The patch notes stated that the framerate has been fixed “under certain conditions.

Whether FromSoftware is looking to fix the framerate issues with baby steps remains to be seen. However, it’s an interesting choice of words, nonetheless. That being said, I’m sure all will be fixed in the coming days.

Here’s what the Elden Ring patch 1.02 notes detailed:

  • Improved player controls
  • Addition and adjustment of BGM
  • Text adjustments
  • Balance adjustments
  • NPC event fixes and adjustments
  • Fixes frame rate drops under certain conditions
  • Fixed text bug in some languages
  • Fixed a bug that prevented the Xbox wireless headset from working properly

Furthermore, at the bottom of the patch notes, it confirms that ray-tracing will be implemented with a future patch. Though no date was given as to when.

Timing for the implementation of ray tracing, which is planned to be supported after the launch, will be revealed in future announcements.

In our review of Elden Ring, we said: “If Dark Souls was the earthquake, Elden Ring is the aftershock. In a sense, it’s more of a love letter to the Soulsborne fanbase, incorporating dramatic fragments of each past game into a single product that is rewarding and fulfilling.
