FromSoftware CEO and Elden Ring director Hidetaka Miyazaki has confirmed what his favourite boss is in the most recent Souls title from the studio.
Everyone has their personal favourite Souls boss, whether it’s because of the challenge, or just simply lore wise. So it’s always interesting to hear what the director of a game rates as their top fight.
And Miyazaki has done just that in an interview with Xbox Wire Japan (translations from IGN), revealing that he likes one of the toughest bosses in the game.

“It’s tough to decide,” said Miyazaki about choosing a favourite boss, “but I’d have to say Radahn. As an individual character he’s really alluring, and I really like the Radahn Festival situation. There’s a literal sense of festivity and exuberance, but also a unique tinge of sadness and loneliness.”

Apparently Miyazaki also laughed at recalling how when the idea for the festival was first raised, “no one on the team took it seriously.” The fight itself is a bit of a show stopper, being able to summon multiple characters across the game. Making it resemble something closer to an MMO raid boss than a traditional FromSoftware boss.
who came in second place?
The Elden Ring director interestingly said that his second favourite is either Godrick, the Grafted, or Rykard, Lord of Blasphemy, a slightly more gimmicky fight. In terms of enemy designs, Miyazaki’s favourite is the awful Spider Hand, literally everyone’s least favourite.

“Spider Hand is one of my favourite designs,” Miyazaki said. “’s something you don’t want to even look at because it’s so horrible. I wonder if the way to overcome your issue is to face it head on and beat it.”
Miyazaki is right, we don’t want to look at it. Still, at least they’re not quite as tough as Radahn. If you’re struggling with the starscourge, you might want to check out our guide on how to best him.
