The wait for news on The Elder Scrolls 6 could finally be ending. According to a new report, the game is called The Elder Scrolls 6 Sentinel, and Bethesda may reveal the name next month. Fans have waited since 2018 for an update, so this is huge news.
The report comes from Tom Warren of The Verge, who cited sources familiar with Bethesda’s plans. Since then, the news has spread quickly online. TikTok creator Tunnel Snakes Fool also broke down the details in a viral video, and she clearly couldn’t hide her excitement.
What we know about Elder Scrolls 6 Sentinel
Warren reports that Sentinel will be the game’s subtitle. That would make the full title The Elder Scrolls VI: Sentinel.
On top of that, the story sounds like a big shift for the series. The game will reportedly be the first entry to dig into the history of the Elder Scrolls themselves. These mysterious ancient artifacts give the series its name, yet past games mostly treated them as background lore.
As Push Square notes, Warren also reports that the game is set in Hammerfell. That’s the homeland of the Redguards, on Tamriel’s west coast. Interestingly, Sentinel is also the name of a major port city in Hammerfell, which fits the report neatly.
A reveal timed with Skyrim’s birthday
The timing could be perfect. Warren says Bethesda might announce the name as soon as November. That would line up with Skyrim’s 15th anniversary on November 11.
However, fans shouldn’t expect too much. Warren believes the reveal will only cover the name, with nothing more for now. Still, after years of silence, even a title would be a big moment.
Fans may have already guessed the name
Some fans claim they saw this coming. According to Dexerto, players had already guessed the name by decoding a teaser from Xbox CEO Asha Sharma. Meanwhile, Reddit users pointed to an older post on the r/TESVI forum that used the same title months ago.
Sharma has also reportedly played the game herself. Warren says she tried it in August and praised its scale. If true, that suggests the game is far enough along to show off.
Why the Elder Scrolls 6 Sentinel news matters
The Elder Scrolls 6 has been a mystery for years. Bethesda first teased it at E3 2018 with a short trailer showing a rocky coastline. Since then, the studio has shared almost nothing.
Skyrim’s huge success only adds to the pressure. The game has sold over 65 million copies, and fans have played it on nearly every platform imaginable. As a result, expectations for its follow-up are sky-high.
Bethesda did offer a small update in July. At the time, the studio said “the next chapter is on the way” and that the team plays the game every day.
Nothing is confirmed yet
For now, it’s important to treat all of this as a rumour. Bethesda hasn’t confirmed the name, the setting or the reveal date. Even so, Warren has a strong track record with Xbox and Bethesda news.
If the report is accurate, fans won’t have long to wait. Skyrim’s anniversary is just weeks away, and Bethesda could finally pull back the curtain on its next chapter. After eight years of waiting, a single word would feel like a gift.
