Rockstar’s secrecy is legendary, and Roger Clark has just proved it. The Arthur Morgan actor revealed that the Rockstar NDA for Red Dead Redemption 2 was even stricter than Marvel’s. Given how secretive Marvel is, that’s quite a claim.
Clark shared the story during a fan convention panel. While chatting about his time on Red Dead Redemption 2, he explained how the cast discovered just how locked down they really were.
How the cast compared notes
The story involves Benjamin Byron Davis, who played gang leader Dutch van der Linde. According to Clark, Davis is friends with Chris Pratt, the actor behind Star-Lord in Guardians of the Galaxy.
Once Red Dead Redemption 2 was finished, the cast could finally speak a little more freely. So Davis and Pratt compared their contracts. Davis held up his Rockstar agreement against Pratt’s Marvel one.
The result surprised everyone. “Our NDAs were so strict,” Clark explained. In the end, the pair agreed the Rockstar contract was the tougher of the two. Clark couldn’t help laughing as he told the story.
Why the Rockstar NDA matters so much
Marvel is famous for guarding its secrets. Actors often get fake scripts, and some only see their own scenes. Tom Holland and Mark Ruffalo have become well known for accidentally leaking details over the years.
So beating Marvel says a lot about Rockstar. The studio rarely shares details before it’s ready. Instead, it controls every trailer, screenshot and announcement carefully.
That approach makes sense for a game as huge as Red Dead Redemption 2. The game spent years in development and finally launched in October 2018. Throughout that time, Rockstar kept the story, characters and big moments tightly hidden.
A life spent keeping quiet
For the cast, that secrecy came with real pressure. Clark spent years performing as Arthur Morgan without telling anyone much about the role. Likewise, the rest of the Van der Linde gang had to stay silent about one of gaming’s biggest stories.
Today, things look very different. Clark has become one of the most popular figures in gaming. He regularly meets fans, streams and shares behind-the-scenes stories like this one. Still, even now, his stories show how seriously Rockstar takes its secrets.
What the Rockstar NDA means for GTA 6
Naturally, this story makes fans think about GTA 6. The game launches on November 19, and Rockstar has stayed famously quiet about it. Apart from trailers and carefully chosen previews, the studio has revealed very little.
Of course, GTA 6 has still faced major leaks. However, those came from hackers rather than the cast or crew. If the GTA 6 contracts are anything like the Red Dead ones, the actors won’t be spilling secrets any time soon.
Ultimately, Clark’s story is a funny reminder of Rockstar’s culture. Few studios guard their games so closely, and even Marvel can’t compete.
