Emma Watson Could Be Set To Join The Marvel Cinematic Universe

Emma Watson could soon be trading the wizarding world for the superhero one of the MCU.

After finding fame as the know-it-all Hermione Granger, Watson has since gone on to star in the likes of This is the EndThe Bling Ring, and Beaty and the Beast.

As Brie Larson settles into her role as Captain Marvel and Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige brings Phase 3 of the world’s highest grossing franchise to a close, the MCU is looking at a female-first feature.

Alongside Captain Marvel being the ‘new face’ of the MCU, Phase 4 is also set to include the Scarlett Johansson-led Black Widow. The latest reports suggest Watson could join ScarJo in the long-awaited standalone.

According to That Hashtag Show, the 28-year-old is close to taking second billing alongside Johansson in Black Widow. The site suggests that Watson would be playing a role that is described as a kick ass female Bond”, which should fit nicely with her stiff upper lip.

As well as getting Feige’s approval, the idea of casting Watson is also being championed by Black Widow director, Cate Shortland.

With both Beauty and the Beast and the MCU being handled by Disney, it makes sense that the House of Mouse goes with talent it’s familiar with. Secondly, Watson is an outspoken activist and flies the flag for female equality — something that should come in handy for a female-first movie like Black Widow.

Joining the MCU back in 2010’s Iron Man 2, Johannson has been a major part of the franchise in the various Captain America and Avengers movies. It’s been a long time coming, but it looks like we’ll finally get to explore more of Natasha Romanoff’s shady past.

If Watson does land the part, it would be her first time in an action movie and could possibly pave the way for future MCU installments — basically the Holy Grail of an actor’s career.

While plenty of Harry Potter stars have made their way into Game of Thrones, only a few have joined the MCU. Alongside the likes of Jude Law, Watson would be one of the lucky few to swap Hogwarts and spells for Hulk and Skrulls.

Production hasn’t started on Black Widow, but with a release set for next year, expect to find out pretty soon who’ll be joining a PVC-clad Johansson.
