Horror movies and games frequently feature cats, usually in the form of a pseudo-jump scare. However, what if a horror game actually let you play as the cat? Well, that’s where Etched Memories comes in, a new PC adventure in which you play as a troubled cat.

Etched Memories is a game all about a cat. Sounds adorable, right? Well, despite the fact that the cat is called Biscuit (!!!), the game is actually a bleak, first-person horror story about a cat with a problematic past. Here’s a synopsis from the game’s Steam page:
“Waking up in the midst of a stormy night, a grey feline named Biscuit finds his mom nowhere in sight. Feel what it is like to be Biscuit as he searches for his mom through the memories he has clung onto.

“Travel through a vast forest and rummage through items and documents to learn about the events that transpired. Unlock new mechanics as you experience important story moments.
“Etched Memories is a first-person and third-person indie, horror, and cat simulation game. Switch perspectives at the click of a button, depending on your preference. This demo is intended to provide players a glimpse of what the full game will be like once development is complete.”
The whole affair sounds like a cross between a horror game and an RSPCA advert, which is sure to make for an emotional adventure. The game’s first-person mode is oddly reminiscent of that TikTok trend where people pretend their cats are doing human things using their paws.

Despite this, the game looks to have some interesting core gameplay mechanics, with the ability to switch between perspectives while you solve puzzles and evade danger.
From Scratch Studios is the two-person team responsible for Etched Memories, which is impressive, to say the least.

The game is currently playable in demo form, which is more proof of concept than a fully finished game. Nevertheless, it’s worth giving Etched Memories a try, especially if you’re looking for something different.
You can grab the demo for Etched Memories for free on the game’s Steam page. Hopefully, curiosity doesn’t kill this cat.
