There’s a lot to know about CD Projekt Red’s upcoming new game, Cyberpunk 2077, which is poised to be one of the greatest games of its generation. If you’re not yet clued up on the upcoming title, here’s everything you need to know about the next offering from the team behind The Witcher 3.

What is Cyberpunk 2077?
Cyberpunk 2077 is a dystopian RPG which takes place in a sprawling urban metropolis called Night City. The game is set in Northern California in the year 2077, and will have six distinct areas to explore.
The idea for Cyberpunk 2077 doesn’t come directly from the studio, but instead is an existing pen-and-paper tabletop game called Cyberpunk, created by Mike Pondsmith and licensed by CD Projekt Red.
The game looks very similar to popular depictions of a futuristic and urban environment, seemingly having taken inspiration from the Blade Runner movies in particular.

What type of a game is Cyberpunk 2077?
Cyberpunk 2077 is, at heart, an RPG but it definitely seems to sway into other territories at times.
CD Projekt seems to have placed a serious focus on the game’s shooter mechanics, setting the game in first person and creating a myriad of ways for players to attack and defend.
Close range combat and melee combat will play a role in the game, though it looks like the main focal point is the gun battles.
Upgrades and Cyberware offer augmented abilities which will allow you to really get creative when fighting your enemies by using things like projectiles.
According to CD Projekt Red, Cyberpunk will be explorable in the traditional way, but will also feature a lot of vertical areas of exploration by the means of Night City’s towering buildings.
You’ll be able to travel by car or by foot, and you’ll also get to choose your own play style. Both stealthy and guns-blazing methods can be used to take down your enemies, depending on your preference.

Does Cyberpunk have a story?
Yes! Night City is a free-for-all of lawless activity where corporations have taken over and the government has completely fallen apart.
You’ll be working your way up the career ladder to become a criminal and take on the gangs that are flooding the city in what’s essentially a massive warzone.

Who do you play as?
CD Projekt Red has very kindly given its players a real chance to make the game as immersive as possible, by offering up a lot of choices for the playable character named V.
V can be a male or female character based on your preference, you can add a forename and a surname for V, and you can customise things like hairstyle and tattoos.
As with most RPGs, you’ll have stats and skill trees, and you’ll be working your way up to becoming either a notorious gun wielder or a ninja assassin.
The path you end up on is generally dictated by your approach to quests, the way you engage in combat and the dialogue options you choose.

What makes Cyberpunk so special?
Just like the Blade Runner movies, CD Projekt Red has placed a huge focus on interconnectivity in the game, working to make it seem like a living and breathing entity in the same way that a bustling city is.
Advertisements you see in the world can show you quests or tell you where to find your nearest vending machine, all thanks to the game’s UI, which is run by an OS.
You’ll have to work for your upgrades and you’ll need to navigate a hugely expansive and dynamic world that’s teeming with life, from the hundreds of NPCs to the interlinked stories and sidequests. There’s a lot, and it’s going to be a seriously solid experience.
Will there be multiplayer?
CD Projekt Red has made it clear that Cyberpunk is a single-player game at its core, but rumour says multiplayer features are being tested.

Is it family-friendly?
Absolutely not. Expect sex, swearing, violence and nudity at the very least.
When will Cyberpunk 2077 launch?
Cyberpunk 2077 has been developed with current-gen consoles in mind, meaning it’s likely to be coming sooner rather than later as next-gen should be launching in 2020.
We’re expecting a release date to be revealed at this year’s E3 conference, though players are hoping for a late 2019/early 2020 launch.
The game will be available on Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and PC.
