Evil Dead: The Game Release Date, Platforms, Info, And More

One of horror’s most iconic characters, Ash Williams, is soon making his way back to the gaming world in Evil Dead: The Game. Unveiled during this year’s Summer Games Fest (basically E3), the game will take inspiration from titles like Dead By Daylight and Friday 13th, pitting teams of players against unstoppable monsters.

The Evil Dead series of films started in 1981, and followed protagonist Ash Williams as he battles against the terror wrought by the Necronomicon Ex-Mortis – an ancient Sumerian text. Bruce Campbell, who plays Ash, will reprise his role as the character in Evil Dead: The Game lending his likeness and voice. Voice actors from across the franchise will also make an appearance in the game, adding an extra level of authenticity.

Evil Dead: The Game will loosely follow the events of the first movie. Five college students take a trip to a cabin – because of course they do – and before long are embroiled in a fight for survival. The series’ penchant for gore and extreme violence will make the perfect fit for any game looking to capitalise on the asymmetrical survival horror series.

So, when does Evil Dead: The Game release?

Evil Dead: The Game was initially slated for a late 2021 release, but the developer delayed the game a few months. A new release window of February 2022 was provided, although there is still no specific date for when the game will release worldwide. This might have been a management decision to give the team some extra wiggle room if the game isn’t finished yet.

When it does release, Evil Dead: The Game will launch on PlayStation 4, Playstation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series S & X, Microsoft Windows and Nintendo Switch. At the time of writing, there is only one planned edition of the game with no pre-order bonuses either. Considering the game set to launch soon, it’s likely we’ll hear more about the game quite soon.

We did get a slight update on the game’s development during a recent Saber Interactive Showcase which included Ash Cambell. Development on the game is reportedly going well, and the team is now in the home stretch. However, the showcase didn’t feature any confirmed new details. So, for now, I guess we will need to wait.

How will Evil Dead: The Game play?

As we’ve previously mentioned, Evil Dead: The Game will play similar to other asymmetrical survival horror titles. Four players will work together against another player controlling a demon. The group must gather resources scattered throughout the map in order to escape. The demon player can attack the group, and send monsters after them. Ultimately, Evil Dead: The Game is a game of cat and mouse, where the favour is shifted towards the cat.

All of the action will play out against the backdrop of maps from the Evil Dead franchise. Characters, enemies and weapons from the films and TV series will also appear in the game. Providing fans with one of the most authentic Evil Dead experiences to date. If that wasn’t enough, there will also be different versions of Ash in the game, representing the various ages of the character.
